Sidney Velo's Tuesday night time trial starts its 35th season on May 7 and will run for 17 nights, ending on August 27. Race fees are $5 per time trial or $50 for the season. Riders
must show proof of a UCI or Citizen's race licence, or an Associate Membership in Cycling BC with a primary affiliation with Sidney Velo at their first time trial of the season. These
must be purchased at
www.cyclingbc.net; we do not sell them at the time trial. The time trial rules are on
www.sidneyvelo.ca/tt_rules.html - read them before your first time trial.
Pre-registration: Registering for your first time trial of the season takes a lot of your time and our time at sign-on. We will be inviting riders to pre-register via Sign Up Genius, starting May 1st - details to follow.
Due to public complaints to the District of North Saanich last season regarding the time trial's use of Cy Hampson Park at the start/finish line, here are some new and some old considerations for 2013:
Parking is limited at Cy Hampson Park - unless it is vital that you park near the start/finish, please park in one of these locations:
- McTavish Interchange park and ride lot on the west side of the Hwy 17 - large lot with a bicycle bridge to the time trial course.
- Lochside Frontage Road to the east of the McTavish Interchange.
- Lochside Drive waterfront parking lots north of the McTavish Interchange.
- Lochside Drive parking in front of Marigold Nurseries 400 m north of Mt. Newton X Road.
- Lochside Drive parking at Newman Park (east side), 800 m north of Mt. Newton X Road.
Park paths: Cycling on the Cy Hampson Park paths is prohibited (even to the toilet).
Some old rules that need reinforcing:
- Do not block the entry or exit from the Cy Hampson parking lot.
- Be courteous to other park users - even if they are behaving badly.
Abiding by these rules is essential to ensuring that the time trial can continue for another 35 years - this course is a gem, and if we lose it, finding a replacement will be very difficult.
